Somber, low-key episode, and one of the best
5 November 2012 | by See all my reviews

If more "Charlie's Angels" episodes were like "Angel Baby", the series as a whole would probably have a higher reputation than the "guilty pleasure" one it has know. Not that I don't enjoy most of the "Charlie's Angels" episodes I've seen so far, but this one is something special. It's low-key (for example, the main bad guy does not have to overact to convince us he's a total creep), somber (the crime is baby-selling, and occasional mother-killing) and downplays the elements of sexiness to the point of non-existence. Sabrina gets all the comedic material (posing as a crass millionairess), while Kelly and Kris get dramatic moments that are sometimes tender, sometimes dark, but always convincing. Kris' line about "having a conscience" is one of the best written and acted moments of the series so far, and so is her reaction near the end after shooting a man (in self defense) for the first time. And a real-life tragedy: guest star Sunny Johnson, so beautiful here, died at the age of 30. *** out of 4.
