Caroline enters into 'Jump the Shark' territory.

Happy couples it sitcoms aren't interesting. It's why Rachel and Ross spent more time apart than together in 'Friends', and why Daphne getting together with Niles marked the start of 'Frasier' going into decline. So, having gotten Richard and Caroline together at the end of the 3rd series of this show the writers really had only one option for stories going into the 4th - break them up all over again. Right from the off here the seeds of doubt is planted in Caroline's mind, and for those like myself who like a happy ending, this wasn't what I hoped for. I know they had to do something, but it was at this point for me that this show which I love hugely, started to become something lesser and different.
