Protected species
bkoganbing28 February 2021
This Cades County episode concerns the Madrid County Sheriff's pursuit of people who capture and kill wild mustangs and sell the remains to dog food companies. The wild horses are a protected species, but that does not stop George Maharis and his crew. In fact Maharis kills a man taking photographs catching hew crew in the act.

This episode has some holes in it. Maharis for one thing makes a stupid mistake allowing for forensics to zero in on him as the suspect. But even worse we have Sam Cade the elected sheriff of Madrid County doing undercover work. I would think Glenn Ford's face would be too well known for that.

Definitely one of the lesser episodes of the series.

The Mustangers

This time, no costume for Sam Cade. As the title says, it's nearly a typical western topic. At the beginning - in this show, the opening sequences are always tremendous - a young man is shot in the middle of the country side whilst watching a wild horses stampede. He is not dead and our lead deputies investigate to find what it is about. So, it's the usual scheme and, as many other episodes, you can't run away from it, unless you forget the whole thing. That's not what I crave the most. Clues, visiting friends, relatives, foreseeable elements for who is used to such series. It's useless to say anything more about it. Just watch it for Georges Maharis as one of the bad guys.
