Storyline

Maggots dropping down to the neighbor below from an apartment being renovated allow discovery of the body of Peg Donovan. Her skull was smashed with lumber, but she survived. Horatio's only logical suspect is Chuck Shaw, who was convicted for raping her, and me be planning from jail to prevent her testimony ruining his up-coming parole hearing. The team must find proof beforehand if he orchestrated everything from his South Georgia prison, somehow manipulating jailer(s) and/or his own son, fine college scholarship freshman Mason Shaw. Quotes

Lieutenant Horatio Caine: Listen, I'm going to run down our rapist's cellmates, phone records, and visitors. See what he's got in his back pocket.
Calleigh Duquesne: Okay. I've got some shoe prints that might be able to help us. I'll show you when you get back.
Lieutenant Horatio Caine: I'm not coming back anytime soon.
Calleigh Duquesne: You're not?
Lieutenant Horatio Caine: Tomorrow is Shaw's parole hearing. If it goes his way, they're going to crack those gates immediately.
Calleigh Duquesne: Yeah, and you want to be there.
Lieutenant Horatio Caine: With enough evidence to put him right back in.
Calleigh Duquesne: Okay. Working as fast as we can.
Lieutenant Horatio Caine: Take care.

one of the perfect episodes in an almost perfect series
19 May 2014 | by (North America) – See all my reviews

When Peterson's oddball concept for a CSI show took off (and boy did it ever) the common wisdom was that lightening could not strike twice. It did. The tone and flavor of the two shows was different. In the Las Vegas edition, Peterson was the "glue," and he set the tone to such an extent that before he retired (and fret not, he retired WELL!) he was voted in some survey the "best fantasy boss" of all time. In this show Caruso is the glue. and his personality (and the writing) sets a very different bar. Part avenging angel, part Savior, he is at the opposite end of the personality spectrum. But THAT works as well, if not better. The cutting on the show is also much faster. Stuff happens much faster. That said, this episode, which starts with maggots dropping from a pristine white ceiling onto a virile young playboy who appears to be planning a date (with himself?) ... to the ending where Caruso assures the "unluckiest woman alive" that her tormentor will never see parole ... while unselfconsciously wiping her bleeding nose from the last murder attempt on her ... well, lets just say that it does not get any better than this. They could teach an entire class on film production from this one episode.
