Storyline

Conman Vincent Thomas Avery is fatally shot in a parking lot, probably by hi gateway driver, after cheating Matt and Cindy Orton. He was also a cocaine mule for drug lord Keith Driscoll, who as also shot in the apartment he shared with Brass's estranged daughter Ellie, so Jim has to hand the case to detective Sam Vega. Orton was an alias for masterly counterfeiters, which Treasury special agent Beckman handles. Written by KGF Vissers

Trivia

William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger only make cameo appearances in this episode as they were busy filming scenes for later episodes in the series. Ironically, "Ellie" became the first CSI episode to hit number one in the ratings. See more »

Quotes

Warrick Brown: Acting supervisor? What about Nick? He's got seniority. Or Sara? She'd jump at the chance
Gil Grissom: If it was about seniority, I'd ask Nick. If I needed someone to stay up for three straight days, I'd ask Sara. Instead, I want you.

CSI:Crime Scene Investigation-Ellie
10 December 2010 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Grissom is racing cockroaches and Catherine is off to attend a casino opening with Sam so Warrick, despite his lack of seniority, is put in charge. It's quite a shift, too, as he must deal with a murder investigation involving Detective Brass' daughter, Ellie, and Sara's unusual case involving counterfeit money. Brass gets a bit too close to the investigation of his daughter who is working as a drug mule along with her boyfriend, and could be the one who shot a member of their coke smuggling team(shot in the ear lobe after snookering a couple with fake poker chips, making of with several thousand dollars worth of counterfeit bills). This was a rare chance of seeing Warrick contending with multiple problems in substitution for Grissom, while Cat is away as well. We see the tension(feel it for lack of a better term)visible between Nick and Sara who hold seniority over Warrick, yet must answer to him. We also get a peek into Brass' personal life, a past which recognizes his not-so-healthy relationship with his estranged daughter. Nicki Aycox(who is a smoldering presence)is Brass' daughter, her scenes with him just break your heart.
