Storyline

A teenage girl runs out of her house in the middle of the night screaming for help. The crime scene inside is a mess with four dead bodies, her father, mother and two brothers, lying in pools of blood. The only survivors are the oldest daughter,Tina, and Brenda, the youngest member of the family. Grissom assembles his team together and announces that this will be the only crime scene for his shift. Meanwhile, he assigns Sara to take care of Brenda, much to her dismay as she is not good with children. Nonetheless, during the course of the investigation, Sara discovers a maternal side in her. Blood Drops is one of the more calm, character driven episodes of the show. There isn't a lot of fancy editing or thumping music, just a sense of dread. The dark mood is very appropriate to the bloody, quadruple slaying in a six person household. Only a too quick third act, which has the motive reveled all too easily, keeps the episode from being perfect. It's still very good and the first episode to feature a retooling of a major Hollywood motion picture. Dakota Fanning plays one of the young girls whose family is killed and, at times, seems to be looking off camera at someone stabbing a puppy. This episode also features the first appearance of Marc Vann as Conrad Ecklie, Gil Grissom's lab nemesis. Blood Drops is one of the essential episodes of the first season and holds up very well among the run of the series.
