CORONADO 9 –They Met in Honolulu - 1961

Coronado 9 was a one season Private Eye series that ran during, 1960-61. Rod Cameron plays a former Navy Intelligence officer who decides to set up shop as a private investigator. He works out of his beach front house in San Diego. This is episode 38 of the series.

In this one, Rod Cameron is hired by an old friend, Hayden Rorke. Rorke has just gotten married and now has a problem. The problem is that his new bride, Jacqueline Mayo, disappeared 30 minutes after they were married. There has been a ransom note delivered asking for $100,000 in small bills.

Cameron gets all the details on Mayo he can. Rorke, however, cannot supply much info on the woman. He had only met her 2 weeks before while on a holiday in Honolulu. Cameron does not like the way the case smells, so he grabs a jet to the islands.

Some quick digging around unearths the fact that Mayo is in love, but not with Rorke. Mayo and her boyfriend, Tod Griffin, are pulling a fast one on Rorke to get their hands on some easy cash. Cameron heads back to San Diego to spill the news to Rorke. Rorke though is smitten with Mayo, and does not believe a word Cameron says.

Cameron finally convinces Rorke to play along with a plan he has come up with. Cameron has Rorke fake a heart attack while making the ransom delivery out on a deserted country road. Cameron then drives up and grabs up the case with the cash. Cameron figures that Griffin is watching from somewhere close, and will follow. Cameron drives back to town and grabs a hotel room.

Sure enough, Griffin bursts in and pretends to be a cop. He goes for the case and opens it, discovering nothing but newspapers. He pulls a revolver intending to pistol whip Cameron into turning over the loot. Cameron has also pulled iron and intends to use it the correct way. The Police are called and Griffin is taken in. That is after informing Cameron as to where his partner, Mayo is hiding.

This was the final episode of the series, and it is quite entertaining.
