CORONADO 9 – The Day Ramon Fell – 1960 Coronado 9 was a one season series that ran during, 1960-61. Rod Cameron plays a former Navy Intelligence officer who decides to set up shop as a private investigator. He works out of his beach front house in San Diego.
Cameron receives a call to come help solve a problem at a dude ranch just over the border in Mexico. The local Police Chief is a friend of Cameron. He had spent several hunting trips at the ranch and agrees to help.
One of the owners of the dude ranch, Nesdon Booth, has met with a most untimely death. While at a ranch piñata party, he belted the piñata which caused a most unfortunate result, it exploded. The explosion needless to say ended the party, and Booth's life. The main suspect is ranch employee, Eugene Iglesias. Iglesias and Booth had been in a major argument that afternoon over Booth's attentions, to Iglesias' girl, Estelita Rodriguez. Iglesias had sworn to kill Booth.
Iglesias had then beat the feet and vanished into the nearby hill country. When Cameron arrives, he interviews everyone involved plus Booth's wife, Jean Willes, and hotel partner, Robert Anderson. Everyone's stories seem to be the same so Cameron heads out to find Iglesias. And find him he does, at the bottom of a cliff with a broken neck. It looks like the case is closed.
Of course that would turn out to be too simple. Cameron smells a rat in the cook-house and digs into the matter. It seems he is right about the rat involvement. The dead man's partner, Anderson has been stepping out with Iglesias' girl, Rodriguez.
Anderson knew that Willes was not happy at the ranch and wanted her husband to sell out to him. When Booth refused to sell, Anderson and Rodriguez planted the bomb which killed Booth and set up Iglesias. Rodriguez had then killed Iglesias with a friendly shove off a cliff. The plan was then to buy out Willes and live happily ever after.
Now Cameron is here throwing a monkey wrench in the works. Anderson now plans to dispose of the P.I. in the same manner. Cameron however is not a 'pushover' and Anderson and Rodriguez are soon handed over to the Mexican Federales.

Of note on the production, is seven time Oscar nominated, and two time winning cinematographer, Ray Rennahan.
