CORONADO 9 – "Doomtown" – 1960

P.I. Rod Cameron is doing some weekend duck hunting in a small backwoods town. He is staying with a friend, Richard Arlen, who he has known for years. Arlen is a bigwig and employs most of the locals. Cameron is out looking for some ducks to bag when he stumbles over the body of a young woman.

Cameron hurries back to Arlen's place and calls the local law, Frank Ferguson. Ferguson quickly rounds up a suspect, local, Kay Kuter. Kuter is not all that swift in the head and everyone believes him guilty. That is everyone but P.I. Cameron. After a talk with Kuter he decides that the fellow could not hurt a fly. He tells this to the Sheriff, Ferguson, and his friend, Arlen.

Cameron states he is going to look into the matter. That idea quickly comes to nothing as Kuter is shot dead during a "jailbreak". Then local toughs, Chuck Couch and Hal Needham jump Cameron and give him a beating. They then tell him he best leave town.

The warning does not take and Cameron grabs his shotgun and pays Sheriff Ferguson a visit. A bit of intense slapping around soon has Ferguson coming clean with the truth. The dead girl has been blackmailing Ferguson and Arlen. Arlen had killed her brother in a hit and run and Ferguson had covered it up. The girl had discovered this and had been asking for cash for her silence. But when she kept asking for more cash, Arlen had killed her. The local, Kuter had been a made to order patsy.

The State Police are called and Arlen and Ferguson arrested.
