This is episode thirty two of the thirty-nine episode P.I series, CORONADO 9. The series ran during 1960 and 1961. Rod Cameron headlines as ex-Navy man who now works as a private investigator based in San Diego.
A man severely injured man is rushed to the hospital emergency ward. The man has a terrible head wound and a neurosurgeon, Wesley Lau, is called in. He tells the man's wife, Christine White, that he will operate in the morning after the patient stabilizes.
When Lau gets home, his wife, Catherine McLeod, hands him a special delivery letter that just arrived. Lau pours himself a drink and opens the letter. The letter contains a threat. Let the injured man die or Lau's wife and children will be killed. Lau quickly calls his friend, P.I. Rod Cameron.
Cameron has a look at the letter and tells Lau to call in the Police. They can offer protection for McLeod and the children while Cameron looks into the case. A quick trip over to the home of the injured man is called for. Cameron and Police Detective, Walter Reed find the man's wife, Christine White has also received a letter. It states that she should tell the hospital not to operate. Cameron asks White if there was anyone that wanted her husband bumped off? Not that she knew about is the answer.
While Cameron looks for further clues the viewer finds out that it was White who had tried to kill her husband. The man had discovered that White, was part of a trio of bank robbers who had killed a guard in a hold-up years before. He had made to go the Police and White had been forced to act. She had however failed in the attempt. People had gathered at the scene and White was unable to complete the deed. She had however called in her "friends" from the robbery. They had come up with sending the letter idea.
The next day, Lau is unsuccessful in his efforts to save the man. White puts up a brave front for everyone. Cameron however smells a rat in the cheese box. He roots around and discovers the truth.
White's, "friends", John Kroger and Tom Gibson draw iron and more than a few rounds fly with deadly intent. The two go down leaking some red stuff while White is collared by John Law.
This is another quick and to the point episode, of this rather violent series.
Of note in this episode is the Oscar Nominated director of photography, Bud Thackery. Thackery pumped out over 400 TV episodes and 100 films during his time in the business.
