Trivia

The college scenes in this episode were filmed at Loyola Marymount University's main campus in Los Angeles's Westchester neighborhood. The cafeteria scenes were also filmed on campus in the Malone Student Center's Terrace Room.

Although Malone still stands (as of April 2016), the Terrace Room was demolished in 1996 as part of a major renovation project that added 19,000 square feet of space to the building. A new modular dining room was built to replace the Terrace Room, but the actual physical space that the Terrace Room occupied no longer exists; the second-floor space was removed to make way for a ground-level patio for a newly constructed coffeehouse. Goofs

The driver stopped by Ponch reaches for the beer can and hits his right cheek on the steering wheel. He grabs his mouth even though that was not where he was injured. In later scenes, he has a black eye even though he was injured on his cheek. See more »

In Flare Up,the CHP Officers learn about the dangers of reacting chemicals that puts people on the road in danger and the truck carry them gets involved in an accident.Jon has to go to hospital after breathing chlorine gas at an accident. Also in this episode,a former juvenile delinquent accuses Ponch of police brutality he pulls over for speeding despite the fact that he didn't even write him a ticket.Ponch gets his hand full with him.

This episode provide interesting concept on how the CHP deal with reacting chemicals particularly hydroacetic acid especially when it causes a chemical spill on the road.
