Trivia

Most CHiPs episodes end with freeze frames of the characters in a final amusing situation. While this episode does contain freeze frames, they are not from the end up the episode (as is almost always the case); rather, they are from the first double date Jon and Ponch go on at the French restaurant, when both men are surprised by the appearance of snails as appetizers. Goofs

When the initial false alarm is called in, the dispatcher says the call is from the San Diego Freeway at Sunset Boulevard, yet when Ponch and Jon enter the freeway after abandoning their lunch, they are in Hollywood, as evidenced by the fact that they pass the Knickerbocker Hotel. The San Diego Freeway (I-405) goes nowhere near Hollywood, and Ponch and Jon are actually entering the Hollywood Freeway (US-101), but they are too far away from scene of the supposed accident for them to be of any real assistance. Other units would be closer.

When all units arrive at the scene of the supposed accident, they are at the Pine Avenue exit of either the San Diego (I-405) or Long Beach (I-710) Freeways, both of which are even farther away from (many miles to the south) Sunset Boulevard than Ponch and Jon originally were in Hollywood. Fake CHiPs Accident Calls
28 July 2013 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

In Cry Wolf,Bogus accident calls have the CHP Officers spinning its wheels While Ponch and Jon try to get some fast food, someone on the San Diego Freeway calls in a gas truck rollover. Although he's calling from callbox "SD 283", he gives the CHP callbox number "SD 285". Ponch, Jon, Baricza, and fire trucks respond.

At the reported location of the accident, emergency response units are standing by. Grossman tells Getraer there's nothing for miles. They give up and start to head out. Finally arriving at the reported location of the accident, Ponch and Jon are told that Getraer wants to see them all back at Central. After they arrive, Getraer, leads a task force and goes over tactics to catch the guy phoning in the fake accidents.

This was one of the better episodes in the first season as the CHP officers get entangled with a creative hacker.
