Trivia

When speaking about the boat, Jon calls Getraer Captain, and Getrear says that reminded him of his Navy days. Ponch reminds Getrear that he was only a Petty Officer 3rd Class. The same year that CHiPs ended (1983), Robert Pine would play Navy Lieutenant Thomas Sullivan Magnum III on Magnum, P.I.: Home from the Sea (1983). See more »

Goofs

Three characters use improper radio designators. CHP radio designators are by the city and then the frequency designator. For example, LA 15 was a frequency assigned to the CHP Central office. Newhall used 78. When the unnamed patrol officer calls in seeing the stolen blue truck, he incorrectly says "Newhall 78 David." When Jon uses the radio after leaving the weigh station, he incorrectly says "Newhall 7 Mary 3". When Vogt uses the radio to call for the rescue unit, he incorrectly says "LA 78 S1". The patrol officer should have said "Newhall 78" and his unit number and alpha designator, such as 7 David. Jon should have said "Newhall 78, 7 Mary 3" while Vogt should have said "Newhall 78, S1". CHiP Officers On Sea
26 July 2013 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Aweigh We Go is one episode wherein we witness Jon and Ponch on the sea.

The episode started when CHiP officers fixes a mess when a car causes a car towing a trailer to swerve while they were on chase. The boat slides off the trailer and crashes into a beauty salon.

Then Jon and Ponch have been assigned to the weigh station. When they arrive, they get lessons with the scales. When Ponch convinces Jon to buy the crashed boat, Ponch learns Getraer bought it. When a red PVC truck drives by the scales, Ponch and Jon go after it. While Jon writes the citation, Ponch catches up on the soap opera. Trying to convince Jon that his load is secure, the driver loosens it and the pipes roll off. After getting the load secure, Ponch and Jon eat lunch at the Magic Mountain amusement park. Ponch calls Getraer and yells at him for buying "his" boat. Jon talks Joe into splitting the boat 1/3 each.

This is one fascinating episode wherein we see traffic officers get involved in the sea for a change.
