Xander dreams of greatness. In Biology class the teacher, Dr. Gregory, is secretly eaten afterward, disappears, and is declared missing. Meanwhile, Angel gives Buffy another cryptic warning (and his black leather jacket) but no real personal info. A substitute teacher Ms. Natalie French steps in to continue the Biology lesson on insects, and her good looks guarantee volunteers after class. Later, Cordelia Chase finds Dr. Gregory decapitated. To Buffy's surprise vampires flee from Ms. French, leaving her and Giles to wonder why. She asks pheromone-soaked Xander to come study with her after class. Another student, Blayne also went to her house, but he didn't return from his previous appointment with Ms. French. When Xander arrives at her house he ends up drugged and locked up in her basement. Did You Know?

This scene was cut because of length:[2] Buffy: "Dr. Gregory didn't chew me out or anything. He was really cool. But Flutie showed him my permanent record. Apparently, I fall somewhere between Charles Manson and a really bad person." Willow: "And you can't tell Dr. Gregory what really happened at your old school?" Buffy: "I was fighting vampires? I'm thinking he might not believe me." Willow: "Yeah, he probably gets that excuse all the time." Cordelia: (just arriving) "Here lies a problem. What used to be my table occupied by pitiful losers. Of course, we'll have to burn it." Buffy: "Sad, you have so many memories here. You and Lawrence, you and Mark, you and John. You spent the better part of your 'J' through 'M' here." See more »

Buffy finds the science teachers glasses on the floor, and she puts them on the table. In one shot she places them with the legs folded out right side up, and then in the close-up, the legs are folded in. In the next shot, the glasses are upside down on the table. See more »

Cordelia Chase: I don't know what to say. It was really, I mean, one minute you're in your normal life, and then who's in the fridge? It really gets to you, a thing like that. It was... let's just say I haven't been able to eat a thing since yesterday. I think I lost, like, seven and a half ounces? Way swifter than that so-called diet that quack put me on. Oh, I'm not saying that we should kill a teacher every day just so I can lose weight, I'm just saying when tragedy strikes, we have to look on the bright ...

Not Buffy's best work
26 September 2016 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

The first season took a lot of risks to establish what it wanted to do and this was poor attempt in my opinion. Its slow building up suspense and never seems to go anywhere until the finale which seems to end before it began. The special effects and lighting are the worst probably due to the low budget to save money for the big shows they present making teacher's pet the scrape goat in the process.

I truly tried to find anything to like but the arches feel disjointed and taped together. Its not interesting or offer any perspective we haven't seen before and ends up a dud. Maybe if the film story had been fleshed out more so it was more well rounded it could be exciting instead of full and the worst episode in the series I skip on rewatches.
