Storyline

At the hell-mouth, the Master of evil explains to his boy heir Collin that fear rules people better then love or hate. He manages to use the young schoolboy Billy Palmer to make every student of Sunnydale High's terrifying nightmares come true, ranging from Xander appearing in class wearing only boxer-shorts to being chased by murderers, losing one's favorite abilities or poisonous spiders coming out of one's schoolbooks... Trivia

This episode and the season six musical episode "Once More With Feeling" contain specific references to each other. In "Nightmares," when the group is trying to figure out what magical issue they have to overcome this week, Xander says, "our dreams are coming true," and Giles responds, "Dreams? That would be the musical comedy version of this," which is basically a description of "Once More With Feeling." In "Once More With Feeling," when the group is again trying to figure out what magical issue they have to overcome this week, Willow sings "I've got a theory: some kid is dreaming, and we're all stuck inside his wacky Broadway nightmare," which is close to the plot of "Nightmares." Goofs

Giles loses the ability to read as one of his nightmares. His other is that Buffy dies. If he can't read, and no one said anything, how does he know that they're at Buffy's grave? See more »

Quotes

Joyce Summers: It's just... I know the situation's hard, You just always want to remember your father adores you - no more than I do by the way.
Buffy: Thanks and Mom, don't worry. I'm over the divorce. I officially release you from all guilt.
Joyce Summers: That's not what I was getting at. You feel like putting that in writing?

A beautiful example of why Buffy rocks
8 March 2007 | by (Australia) – See all my reviews

when i first watched this episode i watched it about midnight and it scared the crap out of me and yet touched me with Buffy's transformation to a vamp.

this episode was just so good because it had the colleague of different beasties of "halloween" the dream like essence of "restless" and it just touched me like oz's leaving.

I Recently watched all of season 1 with a bunch of friends and this and prophecy girl (another great episode) were there favorites. this episode made me cringe with its terrifying clown made me laugh at the same clown. made me laugh at willow because it was so smartly written, so simple, so brilliant it shows how Buffy survived 7 years in prime time

this episode is beautiful with some great dialog 10 out of 10 WATCH IT
