THE BROTHERS BRANNAGAN – Mistaken Identity -1961

This series, which ran during 1960 to 1961, stars Stephen Dunne and Mark Roberts as a pair of brothers who are private investigators. The two are based in Phoenix, Arizona. The series ran for a total of 39 episodes. This is episode 38 in the series.

Stephen Dunne and Mark Roberts are staying at a mountain inn celebrating the birthday of a mutual friend, Kasey Rogers. They have just got back from a day of horse riding. They agree to meet for drinks and all head for their rooms to freshen up first.

There is knock on Miss Rogers door. She answers and a man with a gun, Tom Cain, pushes his way in. Rogers is rendered unconscious and about to be taken to a waiting car, when Stephen Dunne arrives to escort Rogers to the bar. A pistol butt to the side of the head soon sends Dunne off to nap time. Rogers is carried off to a car and driven off.

Dunne is soon found by his brother, Mark Roberts and the Police are summoned. Police Lt, Barney Phillips is soon on the scene. A quick check at the front desk and all discover that Rogers had a room change happen that day. The woman booked in first had asked for a different room. Some quick questions are asked of the woman, Bailey Harper.

It seems that Miss Harper is a witness in a mob trial. The mob had grabbed the wrong woman in error. When the mob realizes they screwed up they send Cain and his pal, Lewis Charles, off to grab the right woman. The Police are of course waiting for such a move and guns are quickly needed and used. The bad guys are soon suffering from a severe overdose on heavy metal contamination.

The brothers and the police follow up on some clues found in the gunmen's car. They raid a motel and gobble up some more mob types and free Miss Rogers.

This is a fast moving episode of a series that is quickly becoming a personal favourite. Plenty of action, good back and forth between the leads and a slightly tongue in cheek attitude are all combined into a winning formula.
