Marcia The Traitor

Marcia dates the quarterback of a rival high school team.

An OK though not very memorable show. Christopher Beaumont appears again on the show as the QB Jerry Rogers, he had appeared 3 other times in different roles. Greg is on Jerry's rival team. It seems Jerry is only dating Marcia so he can steal Greg's playbook. A subplot has Carol meeting up with her old boyfriend Tank , a former QB himself. He is played by Denny Miller, who played Tarzan in a 1959 film. He is quite funny as the conceited former football star.

You have to scratch your head as to why Robert Reed did NOT like many of the series' scripts. They were fun, perhaps not from an adult's point of view, but for all us kids who grew up on this show, they were classic.

This is possibly the most clever of 'em all, and a good character study to boot. Christopher Beaumont, who appeared several times on the series, plays handsome rival high school quarterback Jerry --who wants to date Marcia? Could it be he's looking for Westdale High's playbook, hanging around the house somewhere, thanks to Greg?

Marcia invites Jerry over, and while she leaves him alone for a few minutes, Bobby just happens to see him snatch the magic book. The fiend!

You have to admit, Jerry's a fairly resourceful guy, even though Marcia refuses to believe it, until the truth really comes out.

In meanwhile, Carol's former high school sweetheart and football hero, called "Tank," so well played by 50s TARZAN Denny Miller, comes to visit, still acting like a high school football hunk. Denny Miller steals the show, and it's a shame he didn't return to the series, laugh out loud funny. Denny appeared in many tv shows, best known as Duke on WAGON TRAIN, and in an episode of GILLIGANS ISLAND as Tongo, the Ape Man. Watch for it.

Some really good acting in this episode, and well written by Ben Gershman, series writer for MY FAVORITE MARTIAN and JULIA. Chris Beaumont later became a writer and story editor for the FAME tv series, and once married to singer Gloria Loring.

A must see for all us football addicts. SEASON 5 EPUSODE 9 remastered Paramount/ABC box set.

Love this episode due to the subject matter & comedy in it.

The main story is about "Fairview Freak" Quarterback Jerry Rogers(Chris Beaumont) trying to steal Greg's playbook by acting like he is interested in Marcia. The secondary story is about Carol meeting her old high school boyfriend Tank Gates(Denny Miller) or should I say Twinkles meeting the Tanker.

The secondary story is much funnier than the main story. I love the jealousy that Mike has in regard to Twinkles(Carol) & Tank. Denny Miller was perfectly cast as the meathead old flame of Carol's. Robert Reed was great in this episode.

Highly recommended.
