While Carol and all six of the kids are at the supermarket, they are obviously being spied on by a strange man. He ends up being Skip Farnum, a television commercial director, who wants to use the entire family for a TV ad for Safe laundry detergent. Excited by the prospect of being famous actors, they agree to do it, that is until Mike, who learns that they don't actually use Safe. Wanting to keep their integrity, he insists that they do a wash off between their existing detergent, Best, and Safe, before ultimately agreeing. Even if Safe comes out on top and they decide to do the commercial, Mike in particular is still apprehensive if only because they're not actors, and he doesn't want to come off looking stupid in a public setting. So they ask for the advice of a friend of a friend, an actor named Myrna Carter. Will Myrna's advice change the fundamental nature of why Skip was attracted to the family in the first place? Brady Bunch detergent commercial gets 'washed out'
5 February 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

One of the more humorous Brady Bunch episodes! The opening scene pictures Carol and the sextet shopping at the market,of course Bobby races through the automatic door. Skip Farnum( played by Paul Winchell)is continuously following the Brady family as they unload their groceries. At last Skip introduces himself, tells Carol her family would be "far out" is his commercial selling the best laundry detergent SAFE. Mike and Carol are studying the contract,Alice and the kids are excited to be getting paid,as Greg labels it'bread' for appearing on TV. However when Mike asks Carol which detergent 'we'currently use,she states BEST because BEST is Best. Mike alerts Carol how can we do a commercial and lie to millions of viewers since we use a different laundry detergent? Because of this Mike informs Carol not to do the commercial, states this being a fraud. Naturally he let's Farnum know they shouldn't lie to the public. "Pussycat Alice"and the kids are dejected, However just then Mike phones Carol and discovers a 'new and improved' SAFE just came on the market,so they agree to have a washathon to figure which detergent is 'best'. The kids dirty themselves,Alice washes the clothes using two different detergents, however they all vote that SAFE washes clothes best. 'We get to do the commercial!' Mike and Carol take up acting lessons with Myrna or Mierna Carter, she tells them to be 'motivated'. Skip Farnum and his crew return to the Brady home for the rehearsal, but he becomes enraged that Mike and Carol comes off too square Skip becomes bewildered and tells them to 'be yourself, relax and you'll be cool',"What happens when you put a camera on floks, they flip out!"and Alice gets carried away too. Best lines: Skip furiously berates the Brady Bunch by saying "This whole deal is a washout,Kaput,"My nice normal family, just a bunch of ding-a-lings!" Mike says Mr Farnum we took acting lesson,we just wanted to be bigger than life. Farnum reacts 'You'll be bigger, but not in my life, get out of my house!" Mike fires back "This is my house!" Farnum states this reminded me of that horrible actress, Myrna Carter.
