Two years before she starred in True Grit, Kim Darby did a Mattie Ross like character on this Bonanza episode. Only instead of a kind loving father who is murdered, she has a drunken lout of a father in Tom Tully. The two live in the hills and break wild horses for a living to sell to ranchers like Ben Cartwright.
She comes up with a winner in a wild horse, but Tully doesn't want to her of it. Lorne Greene buys the horse for the Ponderosa and the horse has speed.
I don't think I have to go further than this. Let's just say that Tully owns up to being a father and the horse has the heart of a champion.
