Many cowards
talonjensen14 July 2018
Feminists should love this episode, the brave women in the town outnumber the brave men (an old man and a boy). Although Ben does have to play peacemaker between the "good" and "bad" women.

Joe Don Baker, as Luke Harper, does a great job playing the arrogant, entitled, cowardly brother of an outlaw gang leader, it only takes a couple minutes to hate Luke. Muddy Creek's sheriff rides into the Cartwright camp on the way to deliver Luke to his jail to await being picked up by a group of Marshals. Luke gets hold of a gun and kills the sheriff, expecting the Cartwrights to let him go free.

The townspeople block Little Joe and Ben's path when they bring Luke into town because his brother has already warned them he will kill everyone and burn the town to the ground. The manage to get Luke in the jail and the townspeople leave, so Little Joe goes to get help leaving Ben alone in the jail with the prisoner. Ben talks the women into leaving. As the gang of three comes to town Ben faces them on the street and they don't see the few rifles sticking out windows pointing at their backs. Luke gets his gag off and yells that it is a trap, so the shooting begins. Ben shoots the leader, Luke's brother, Cliff. Two of the women, who didn't leave, are only shooting from their hips. But, with the leader down the other two take off. And, of course, the Cartwrights show up.

The five who stayed are "The Real People of Muddy Creek".

SPOILER: The young boy is being raised by his grandfather because the gang leader, is his father. The boy looks at the dead outlaw and realizes the truth, gasps and hugs his grandpa.
