Storyline

A physician in the state of California is brought to trial on the charge of performing an illegal abortion. At the time (1970) therapeutic abortions we're legally performed if the woman had been evaluated by a psychiatrist and continuing the pregnancy would have established mental health ramifications. In addition the woman's case would have to be performed in a certified hospital on an in-patient basis and the procedure would have to be approved by the hospital's therapeutic abortion committee. What follows during the episode includes a an interesting presentation by the defence team exploring the validity of the law and how it applies to this case.
