Laura Devon: looking great, stuck in lousy role
lor_2 February 2024
The genre is outdated and the script deficient in this very weak Chrysler Theatre segment.

Beautiful Laura Devon is the reason to watch, though she's saddled with a lousy role. She's torn between her piano teacher Jack Klugman and suave conductor Louis Jourdan in a romantic triangle that doesn't play well -Klugman is earnest bit hardly proper casting as a romantic lead.

Lots of classical music is played, but the story goes nowhere and it's difficult to root for Laura's character. The drama is artificial and built around boring cliches concerning the difficulties of an artist. And it's no surprise that Louis has elements of being a cad, though both men are sincerely interested in Laura becoming successful due to merit and hard work, rather than just sex.

Writer Elick Moll, whose credits only include one winner ("The House on Telegraph Hill") really muffs the ending, or should I say, non-ending.
