Just as she returns to work after being away on maternity leave, DCI Janine Lewis finds herself leading the investigation into two deaths. After dropping her daughter off at school, she witnesses a fancy Mercedes speeding through the school zone and striking one of the children. She makes chase but they get away. The car belongs to James Harper, but he claims it was stolen that day. The car is eventually located, burned out and abandoned. The second case involves the body of a young woman found dead in the river. The post-mortem reveals she was strangled and that a piece of her flesh was cut off her right leg, likely to remove some type of identifying mark such as a tattoo. They eventually identify her as Rosa, an illegal immigrant who worked at a lap dancing club. When they visit the club, they find that none other than James Harper is the manager. He tells them that the owner, a Pole named Silikov, is away. As they work their way through the evidence, they focus on finding Silikov, now their prime suspect.- Written by garykmcd
