In the scene when Lady Dedlock tells Esther that she is her mother, Gillian Anderson said it was so hard the first time they shot it. They shot it outside, and had to keep pausing for passing airplanes, helicopters, bumblebees, and clouds passing across the sun. She said that the difficulty in keeping the emotion going while only getting to say a line or two at a time was dreadfully exhausting. It was so bad, they ended up re-filming it in a sound stage the next day. See more
