After a quick courtship, Darrin and Samantha Stephens are currently on their honeymoon. One of the things that Samantha has not yet told her new husband but is contemplating doing so is that she is a witch in the literal sense. Samantha's mother, who finds out about the marriage solely because of the honeymoon, is against her daughter's marriage to a mortal, but nonetheless believes she needs to tell Darrin the truth, which Samantha eventually does. Samantha needs to do a demonstration of her powers for the news truly to sink in for Darrin. After the initial shock, Darrin states that it doesn't make a difference, but, and it is a big but, she is not to use witchcraft in an effort to lead a typical mortal life. Samantha wholeheartedly agrees. But Samantha's vow is put to the test when she and Darrin are invited to a dinner by Darrin's old girlfriend Sheila, who uses whatever opportunity available to make Samantha feel uncomfortable and inferior.
