Country stars Flatt & Scruggs make their first of seven appearances on the BEVERLY HILLBILLIES in this hilarious episode, cast as themselves, old friends of the Clampetts. When the singing duo writes Jed a letter informing him that they will be in town for an engagement, the family presumes they mean duo are coming to town for one of them to marry Cousin Pearl, the old flame of their youth. The duo were actually referring to a concert they have in the Los Angeles area and in fact are already married - to gorgeous city girls Joi Lansing and Midge Ware (which Lester and Earl admit are "second best" to Pearl). This is an excellent episode and features Flatt and Scruggs singing both the theme song to the show (which they had a number one country hit with, although Jerry Scoggins sings the song on the series' credits) and their comic "Pearl, Pearl, Pearl" number which was also a country hit. Trivia note: this is one of several episodes where Jetherine is neither seen or mentioned although she was living in the mansion at the time with Pearl and her brother Jethro.
