Trivia

The scene in which Kelly is crying and saying "I don't know what to do" and Bernie slaps him, saying "Be a man!" is a direct parody of the scene in The Godfather (1972) in which Don Vito Corleone slaps Johnny Fontaine after the same exchange. See more »

A friend indeed
13 December 2008 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Bernie is thrilled to have is buddy Kelly, on the outs with his latest girlfriend, stay over for a few days and help out with the kids. Problem is, Kelly soon wins over the kids. And he is leading them down a thorny path as he becomes a little too indulgent. Bernie has to deal with Kelly in a way that won't destroy their friendship. I assume the Mac Man had fairly tight control over this show, as Kelly and all of Bernie's friends seem like real people to me, something most black sitcoms fail to accomplish in their poorly written attempts to draw the most yocks, often at the expense of the characters, who become cartoons.
