****SPOILERS*** The usually cool under pressure Dr. Ben Casey, Vince Edwards, almost blows a fuse here when the lights go out in the city's general hospital and he's left with no power to do his job in the emergency ward where a number of patients are in danger of losing their lives. Doing his best to keep everything and everyone, doctors and patients, under control and in working order another emergency soon pops up when little Jo Tarlow, Tracy Startford, who's soon to give birth mom Mrs. Tarlow, Natalie Norwick, is trapped in an elevator together with hospital orderly Burt Green,Lew Brown, and is not only in danger of a miscarriage but bleeding to death!
Working in the dark Dr. Casey gets the hospital maintenance man Engineer Andersen,Michael Constantine, to get the lead out and fix ASAP the hospital generator to get the lights and power turned back on before anyone ends up dead in or out of the emergency ward. It takes a while for Andersen to get things started but it's then that one of the hospital mental patients the wide eyed and crazed looking Felix Gault, Jack Elam, who's despondent because his pet cat Pamala checked out on him, you can only wonder why, which is the reason that he cracked up. Felix now kidnaps little Jo so she, from what Felix heard, can replace his cat with one of the kittens her pet cat Ginger just gave birth to!
***SPOILERS*** Dr, Casey finally tracks down both Felix and little Jo in a hospital corridor and gently talks the emotionally unstable man to let Jo go and get the treatment that he so desperately needs to get his mixed up head straighten out. It's then that, thanks to Engineer Andersen, the lights suddenly come on not only in the hospital but the entire city where Jo's mom Mrs. Tarlow, remember her, is rescued together with the hospital orderly Burt Green who's looking after her from the stalled elevator. It's by then that Mrs. Tarlow had given birth to a healthy 7 pound 12 once baby boy. As for by now dead tired Dr."Gentle Ben" Casey he's now free to get some badly needed sleep after working around the clock without even having time for a 15 minute coffee brake!
