- Commander Cain: I do know how to win a battle.
- Captain Apollo: Yes, but what about your warriors? Are you thinking of them when you take on three basestars all by yourself or are you thinking of history? The legend of Commander Cain?
- Commander Cain: You're out of line, Captain! Full speed ahead, Colonel.
- Captain Apollo: I just want to remind you that your own daughter will be out there with us.
- [Starbuck and Boomer are in the flight bay when they learn of Cain's plan to engage the Pegasus single-handedly against three Cylon basestars]
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Tell me it isn't true. Three basestars head on?
- Lieutenant Boomer: Is he crazy?
- Captain Apollo: A little. But it's what gives him his advantage. Who could think of anything like this but Cain?
- Lieutenant Boomer: Apollo, what are our chances of coming out of this thing? I mean we're walking right into a Cylon city.
- Captain Apollo: You really want to know?
- Lieutenant Boomer: That's what I thought.
- Count Baltar: What is the latest intelligence?
- Lucifer: It is the consensus of the commanders of the two supporting baseships that we should ask for help from the planet Gamoray at once.
- Count Baltar: Somehow, I find the idea of some base commander on Gamoray taking credit for destroying the Galactica slightly annoying.
- Lucifer: We did not do quite so well in battle this day.
- Count Baltar: We were taken by surprise! Thanks to your so-called intelligence report!
- Commander Adama: A drop right into the heart of a Cylon capital. How did we ever become so desperate?
- Imperious Leader: My fellow Cylons, it is indeed a great honor to dedicate this southern centre of Cylon Culture to the advance of, and perfection of the Cylon race.
- Imperious Leader: What, pray tell, was that?
- Lieutenant Boomer: [cut to Boomer and Starbuck] There go the bunkers!
- Imperious Leader: [cut back to Imperious Leader] Find out, before I have you scavenged for spare parts.
- Flight Officer Tolan: Sir, long-range scanners pick up an unbelievable number of enemy craft on their way.
- Commander Cain: Prepare coordinates to intercept.
- Flight Officer Tolan: You mean lead them off, hit and run?
- Commander Cain: I mean intercept. Go through them.
- Captain Apollo: Starbuck?
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Yo.
- Captain Apollo: So many of them, you can't miss.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Yeah, but I just lost Bunker and Taggs. Laser fire's so thick, you could walk on it.
- Commander Adama: You realise I can relieve you of your command?
- Commander Cain: [over the intercom] Adama, please. Don't make my last battle an act of mutiny. Send me in with your blessing.
- Commander Adama: [reluctantly] My prayers go with you... and always serve you.
- Commander Cain: [over the intercom] Thank you, Adama, thank you.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: How can we be accused of violating orders of a man who isn't following orders himself?
- Captain Apollo: Somehow, that makes sense to me.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Good. Are you with me?
- Count Baltar: Sound the retreat, return to our baseships!
- Cylon Centurion: But we have not finished off the Galactica.
- Count Baltar: We're half out of fuel and those Vipers are coming in fresh! Now do as I say before they blast us out of the stars!
- Cylon Centurion: Retreat. Squadron, retreat.
- Colonel Tigh: Sir, the incoming Cylon fleet has suddenly turned around and is headed back the other way. Cain is attacking all three baseships on his own.
- Commander Adama: It's exactly what he said he'd do.
- Commander Cain: [cut to the Pegasus] Range to baseships!
- Flight Officer Tolan: 110 centons. We'll be down to 11 centons at full speed.
- Commander Cain: All right, Tolan! Let get there! We have a very important appointment with a man named Baltar!
- Count Baltar: How long before out fighters can return to defend us?
- Lucifer: I'm afraid the Pegasus will reach us first.
- Count Baltar: Then drop back. Let the other two baseships intercept the Pegasus.
- Lucifer: I'm not sure the other base commanders will appreciate that.
- Count Baltar: It isn't a request, it's an order.
- Flight Officer Tolan: Two basestars coming up on range, sir. The third has fallen back behind them.
- Commander Cain: That will be Baltar's ship! Plot a course between those two forward ships!
- Flight Officer Tolan: It's getting a little sticky in there, sir.
- Commander Cain: Arm all air-to-head missiles and bring electronic defense shields to maximum power!
- Cassiopeia: [in the corridor] Cain!
- [running after him, catching up]
- Cassiopeia: Cain. What is it? What's happening? I just heard you're returning to the Pegasus.
- Commander Cain: That's right.
- Cassiopeia: I was hoping we would talk.
- Commander Cain: And I've been hoping you'd say that, but now is just not the time, Cassie.
- Cassiopeia: Maybe I could ride over to the Pegasus in your shuttle.
- Commander Cain: No, Cassie. It'd be safer for you here.
- Cassiopeia: [alerted to something he's planning] Safer? Why? What are you going to do?
- Commander Cain: It's a mission. Don't worry. I'll be all right. I always come back... I love you.
- [goes off, leaving her fighting tears]
- Lieutenant Athena: Commander Cain on the line, Father.
- Commander Adama: Thanks for the assist, Cain. It didn't look any too good there for a while.
- Commander Cain: It doesn't look any too good now either. What have you got cooking on that bridge?
- Commander Adama: Everything's under control at the moment. But I'd like to land my fighters on the Pegasus. It will take some time to repair our landing bays.
- Lieutenant Bojay: Is this where we check in?
- Captain Apollo: For what?
- Lieutenant Bojay: We've been assigned to the Galactica ground force.
- Captain Apollo: By whose orders?
- Lieutenant Sheba: My father's. We are, after all, the only people in this room who are familiar with the target.
- Captain Apollo: You've been there, on the ground?
- Lieutenant Sheba: No, but we've been over it many times, and since we'll be making free-flight jumps, it might be nice for you to know where you're going.
- Captain Apollo: Uh, no reflection on your ability, but I'm just a little puzzled at your father risking you on such a...
- Lieutenant Sheba: ... one-way mission?
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, no offense, lady, but this kid doesn't go on one-way missions.
- Lieutenant Sheba: I'm sorry, I was just being a realist.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Realist? If we were realists, we'd all be dead back on Caprica. Now where's the med-tech? I'd like to get started.
- Lieutenant Sheba: We're not taking any.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: What?
- Lieutenant Sheba: We're not gonna have any time to stop for the wounded. We've got millicentons to get in and out of there as it is.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Okay. It's my kind of mission - short.
- Lieutenant Sheba: [amused smile] I do see what you mean. You're an optimist.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Hmm. Would you like to make a little side bet that we come back?
- Lieutenant Sheba: What's the side bet?
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Well, uh...
- [Apollo and Boomer are watching, amused]
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Why don't we make it something real... uh... personal?
- [mischievous smile]
- Lieutenant Sheba: [smiling sweetly] Bad idea, Lieutenant. You wouldn't want me throwing the mission just to avoid the bet.
- [Apollo and Boomer smile, and she gives a taunting look at Starbuck over her shoulder before going off]
- Cassiopeia: Starbuck!
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Cassiopeia?
- Cassiopeia: I have to talk to you.
- [leads him aside]
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Er, well, you picked a great time. We're getting ready to launch.
- Cassiopeia: That's what I wanna talk to you about. I know about the jump. Where are they sending Cain?
- Lieutenant Starbuck: I'm getting ready to jump into an inferno, and you wanna talk to me about Cain?
- Cassiopeia: He isn't planning on coming back.
- Captain Apollo: [impatiently] Starbuck... let's move.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Yeah, yeah. Look, Cassiopeia, I don't know what you heard about Cain, but he's a survivor, he'll be back, if that's what's worrying you.
- Cassiopeia: Starbuck.
- [frowns]
- Cassiopeia: If Cain was expecting to survive, he would have taken me aboard the Pegasus.
- Lieutenant Sheba: What are you talking about?
- Captain Apollo: Nothing. We're all in the same fix. The odds are against us, but we'll get through. Now let's go!
- Lieutenant Sheba: No, she's right. If he left her off of the ship, he's got to be planning something crazy. I have to get back to the Pegasus!
- Captain Apollo: [grabs her by her shoulders] You're with us.
- [wagging his finger under her nose]
- Captain Apollo: Father's orders, remember?
- Lieutenant Sheba: He doesn't even know anything about this. The whole thing was my idea.
- Cassiopeia: I'll take her place.
- Captain Apollo: You can't point out the solar command base on Gamoray. She can.
- Cassiopeia: Where's your med-tech? I don't see one.
- Captain Apollo: We don't have one.
- Cassiopeia: You do now.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: [to bemused Boomer] With support troops like this, who needs Cylons?
- Lieutenant Bojay: [wounded] Put me down. I can't go anymore. Ah! Jeez!
- Cassiopeia: He's got to stop all this running. The pressure on the sealed artery is enormous.
- Lieutenant Sheba: [as Bojay cries out in pain] I'll stay with him.
- Cassiopeia: No, you're needed with Apollo. I'll watch Bojay.
- Captain Apollo: [spurring them on for the sake of the mission] She's right! We haven't much time!
- Cassiopeia: Starbuck. I just want you to know that... uh... it is Bojay I'm thinking of.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: I know.
- Cassiopeia: That doesn't mean that... uh... that I've decided.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Hey. Hey, I know that too. Everyone's entitled to a little confusion in their lives. I practically thrive on it.
- [they smile at each other, and he gets a kiss]
- Lieutenant Bojay: [from sick-bay bed to Cassiopeia nursing him] Thanks for getting me back alive. You're quite a lady.
- Cassiopeia: [smiles at him, then looks up at Sheba entering] He can talk, but not too long.
- Lieutenant Bojay: [as Sheba stands teary-eyed next to his bed] I hear we closed them down good.
- Lieutenant Sheba: [sniffs] Yeah, we really spoiled their party.
- [brave smile]
- Lieutenant Sheba: I got another one to go to, so I'll see you when I get back.
- Lieutenant Bojay: I wish I could go with you.
- Lieutenant Sheba: I promise I'll tell you all about it.
- Commander Cain: How bad was it down there?
- Captain Apollo: Well, Bojay took a hit, but your daughter and Cassiopeia are both fine.
- Commander Cain: My daughter and Cassiopeia? They went with you on that mission?
- Captain Apollo: Like father, like daughter, Sir.
- Commander Cain: Sheba, wait!
- [going after her]
- Commander Cain: Sheba, wait!
- Lieutenant Sheba: [whirls around, teary-eyed] I can't, we're launching! We have three-to-one odds, but then, you know that.
- Commander Cain: I want you to take Bojay and shuttle him back to the fleet.
- Lieutenant Sheba: [shaking her head] I'm sorry, Father, what you plan for my squadron, you plan for me.
- [red alert goes off]
- Lieutenant Sheba: Look, there's one more thing - about that lady, the one that seems to mean so much to you - I watched her save a life today, and she risked her own to do it.
- [shaking her head tearfully]
- Lieutenant Sheba: So what do I know about people?
- [they hug]
- Commander Cain: Oh, I love you, baby. And I wanna see you again. So you be careful.
- Lieutenant Sheba: [nods emphatically] You too, Commander.
- [kisses her father]
- Lieutenant Athena: Sir, a large body of incoming ships from Delta Sector. Unmistakably Cylon.
- Commander Adama: [sighs] Cain's plan didn't work.
- Colonel Tigh: We can't leave those fuel ships on the surface. And fully loaded, they aren't going to be able to move very quickly, even once we get them launched.
- Commander Adama: Notify ground teams to close down and prepare to launch.
- Commander Cain: [next to the bed of wounded pilot] How is he?
- Cassiopeia: He'll live. I'm not so sure about all the others.
- [adding pointedly:]
- Cassiopeia: Tell me, are you winning?
- Commander Cain: You make it sound like my own personal war.
- Cassiopeia: [another patient wheeled in] Sheba!
- Commander Cain: Baby!
- Lieutenant Sheba: [talking up to him] I'm sorry, Father, I missed one!
- Cassiopeia: [directing the gurney] Into chamber four.
- Commander Cain: What happened? How was she hurt?
- Captain Apollo: Like she said, she missed one. The Cylon didn't.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: [to Cain] How about the Pegasus? Is the fire under control?
- Commander Cain: [resolutely] She'll be ready to do the job.
- Lieutenant Starbuck: Uh, what job?
- Commander Cain: Whatever she has to do.
- [he leaves them]
- Lieutenant Starbuck: [as Cassiopeia returns] Is he thinking of doing what I think he is?
- Captain Apollo: Yeah. And you know what bothers me? We're both starting to think just like him.
- Cassiopeia: What's going on here?
- Captain Apollo: I suggest you get every one of your wounded ready to be transferred into shuttles, and fast.
- Lieutenant Sheba: [on gurney] Father, please... don't make me go... I don't wanna leave you!
- Commander Cain: You must go, sweetheart. You must get some sleep now.
- Lieutenant Sheba: But... no, please...! I know I'll be okay.
- Commander Cain: [to the medics] Take her. The shuttles are ready to go.
- Lieutenant Sheba: I'll be fine... No!
- [as she is wheeled off:]
- Lieutenant Sheba: I'll see you soon...!
- Cassiopeia: You're a very special man, Cain.
- [tearfully:]
- Cassiopeia: I'll never forget you.
- [sobs, kisses him farewell]
- Flight Officer Tolan: [over public address system] Final countdown to launch.
- Cassiopeia: [visitors in sick-bay] Not too long. She needs to build back her strength.
- Lieutenant Sheba: [hopefully, despite everything] Any word?
- Commander Adama: No. But that's nothing to be concerned about. Your father wouldn't break communication silence and reveal his position.
- Lieutenant Sheba: [teary-eyed] Thank you for trying... but what are the odds he survived? All those fighters, and a base ship...
- Captain Apollo: What were the odds when we all thought you were lost two yahrens ago?
- Lieutenant Starbuck: As far as I'm concerned, he just headed out into deep space, the way he did last time. The Cylon fighters couldn't have followed him very far with empty fuel cells. They've flown a long way already.
- Commander Adama: [to Sheba] He's right, you know. In the meantime, until your father does communicate with us, I want you to consider yourself... part of our family.
- Lieutenant Sheba: I already do.
- [her hand reaches out, and Adama's closes over hers]
