Crime Busting Duo Saves Dawn and rest of the Day from Noctournal Avian Nest Snatchers!!
29 June 2007 | by (Chicago, Illinois, United States) – See all my reviews

..........................As We Have Already Seen............

After falling into the clutches and his henchmen, Bruce Wayne makes good his escape by use of mini-explosive from his Utility Belt.(worn under his civies.) Fleeing the scene, he is dismissed by The Penguin as having been an Industrial Spy!

Returning to The Bat-Cave, Batman & Robin talk over what has transpired and use conjecture as to what will be the next move. Unknown to the Dynamic Duo, the small umbrella from earlier attached to the giant umbrella, has been bugged by the Penguin, who uses the ideas put forth by Batman & Robin to plot out future crimes.(At one point, Robin remarks that all the materials needed to scale a hotel wall and kidnap movie star, Dawn Robbins, "is in their Criminals' Store Room!", at which one of Penguin's gang goes to a large closet marked, "Criminals'Store Room!")

Batman & Robin do save the day and spoil the kidnappers, because they figured out the method of operation by what Penguin said, repeating verbatim Batman's words from earlier.*

Like most all of the best scripts, this 2 parter was an adaption of an adventure from a story in the comics. In this case it is Batman & Robin join Penguin in becoming unwitting "Partners In Plunder!"** The story line was followed, but of course, it was adapted to the parameters of this 'Campy' TV treatment.

But let's not forget, that we had some pretty gruesome activity in a lot of these scripts that, without the 'Camp' business, would reclassify these stories to being brutal and more like Spillane than Kane.

Like what, you say? Well, just think back to the end of part one, MY FINE FEATHERED FINKS! Did not Mr. Bruce Wayne get himself in the clutches of the Baddies and what was Penguin going to do to Bruce? Does not casting a living person into a roaring blast furnace qualify as being extremely cruel, gory and violent method of killing?

Why, it's downright Inhumane!! There outa be a law!!

* It is an interesting point in the story portrayed that a photo shoot was going on using Miss Dawn Robbins (fully clothed, by the way) for fictional Men's Magazine called FUNBOY, complete with Publisher, Mr. Jay (another 'bird' name, played by Actor Dan Tobin.) It would seem interesting from an Anthropological view that the photographic recording of feminine pulchritude was and remains such an important element of our publishing and communications in our culture. Of course in that period of years since this 1966 productions, we have come from relatively tame use of nudity to "anything goes"!

** This story, "Partners in Plunder!", was published in BATMAN COMICS # 169, February, 1965 issue.
