After Robin has been knocked unconscious, Batman - who is under Black Widow's mind-altering spell - obediently picks him up and slings him over his shoulders like a sack of potatoes, then follows Black Widow and her goons into their hideout. Once inside the Spider's den, Batman unloads Robin and hands him over to a pair of goons, who carry him away. As Batman is carting around the "unconscious" Robin on his shoulders, Burt Ward can clearly be seen giggling. See more »

Batman: In cape and cowl, Commissioner, why?

Interesting twists and turns in this black episode

"Caught in the Spider's Den" finds the Dynamic Duo seemingly helpless to prevent Black Widow's hungry spiders from administering their fatal bite, until Batman wriggles one hand free to use his utility belt's mini charge to electrocute the critters with 5000 volts. Tallulah Bankhead's Black Widow reverses the polarity on her brain scrambler, succeeding in making Batman her willing accomplice, poor Robin held captive. When asked what he'd like to drink Batman requests milk, momentarily stunning the knowing Tallulah: "perhaps you'd like to make your own!" (she damn near chokes on the white substance: "so this is milk!"). Commissioner Gordon never bats an eye when bank manager Irving Irving (Don Briggs) informs him that Batman is all set to split a $40,000 cash advance with Black Widow, the Batmobile parked right in front of the just opened Heritage National Bank, the Grampa dummy (George Chandler) dressed as the Caped Crusader, Black Widow disguised as Robin. An APB goes out on Batman and Robin ("approach with caution, they may be armed"), an attempted arrest by an unsuspecting policeman (Richard Krisher) ending with the lawman shooting Batman at point blank range! Back at the widow's pad, Robin manages to break free of his bonds and restore Batman to his normal self for the inevitable triumph over Mrs. Max Black. 'Miss Tallulah Bankhead' certainly enjoys spoofing herself, and with this her farewell performance can be said to have signed off in typically high spirits.
