Third episode from season 3, "Bat Trap" presents veteran Western heavy Lon Chaney as Rance Fletcher, a brutal sharpshooter who runs afoul of Bat Masterson (Gene Barry), currently in charge of judging a turkey shoot, keeping things honest. Challenging Bat to a scuffle in the street, the defeated Fletcher decides to win by more devious methods, preying on the jealousy of young Billy Webb (Jack Ging), and later putting a bullet in his shoulder. A close decision goes to Dick Pierce (Frank Ferguson), forcing the vengeful Fletcher to bait a trap through the cowardly kidnapping of Billy Webb's fiancée, Amber Mason (Maggie Pierce). The final showdown even features the infrequent use of Bat's cane gun. By 1960, the pot-bellied, alcoholic Chaney was 54 years old, and needed an obvious stunt double for his fight with Gene Barry, yet still remained a formidable villain. Attractive Maggie Pierce had a busy TV career lasting from 1959 to 1967 (co-starring in MY MOTHER, THE CAR), with occasional movie roles such as Vincent Price's daughter in the "Morella" segment of 1962's Roger Corman Poe feature "Tales of Terror."
