Jack De Leon and Herb Edelman
16 February 2014 | by (Youngstown,Ohio) – See all my reviews

"The Guest" refers to the character played by Herb Edelman, a Mafia informant marked for death, who spends the day at the 12th precinct, hours before his appointment with the DA. Returning from the second episode "Experience" is Jack De Leon as Marty Morrison (second of eight), homosexual and compulsive thief, here caught sneaking out a department store with stolen luggage, agonizing over his impending marriage to a 74 year old bride. Chano invests everybody's money in a huge bust, only to have his arrest busted by the FBI (Fish's response: "quick, someone take my gun away!"). A genuine crisis occurs when the sandwiches sent out for lunch arrive, before receiving the genuine delivery. Since only Wojo actually took a bite, he winds up recovering in the hospital, the entire meal laced with arsenic. Harris resourcefully reports to the newspapers the death of the Mafia informant, safely insuring his testimony. There would be more serious entries in the future, and this proved to be a promising beginning. Barney's wife Liz turns up at the precinct to discuss taxes with her husband, an inspiration to Fish, who enjoys seeing her do 'little things' for Barney, commenting about his own wife: "I'll send Bernice over to watch how she does that, if you don't mind!" Yemana's best line comes in response to a telephone repairman who has never seen a Japanese cop before: "you ever been in Tokyo?" (Milt Kogan makes his fourth of six appearances as Officer Kogan downstairs).
