Events take place on a Sunday as Harris is preparing to leave for his ski vacation to Wyoming. In Vacation (1979), he made reservations for December 2 through December 15, only to find Dietrich had already claimed the same exact days for his own vacation. Either Dietrich temporarily lost vacation privileges after his arrest in Dietrich's Arrest: Part 1 (1980), or the two worked something out off screen so Harris could go after all. Though it first aired in March of 1980, this is a rare instance of an episode having an inferable exact date: Sunday, December 2, 1979.
Paul Lieber would come back at the beginning of the next season to play Detective Eric Dorsey. He would appear in only three episodes.
When Harris asks Barney if he wants anything from his ski trip to Wyoming, Barney wants a "Bolo". Harris says "Like Sky King"?
Sky King (1951) was an American radio and television series. Its lead character was Arizona rancher and aircraft pilot Schuyler "Sky" King. The series had strong Western elements. King usually captured criminals and spies and found lost hikers, though he did so with the use of his airplane, the Songbird.
Norman Bartold played five different roles for the series : Copy Cat (1977) (Season 4, Episode 6), Inquisition (1979) (Season 6, Episode 1), The Architect (1980) (Season 6, Episode 20), Movie: Part 2 (1981) (Season 7, Episode 10), Movie: Part 2 (1981) (Season 8, Episode 16).
In perhaps another reference to "Sky King", Schuyler was the last name of the main character in Sky King. It's the last name of the insurance salesman in this show.
