A king's ransom in precious coins vanishes from a hotel-suite vault while the owners sleep only a few feet away. Banacek arrives to figure out how the impossible to open vault was so easily breached without a sign left behind.

A valuable collection of coins is about to be auctioned off. The owner checks into a hotel and places the coins in a safe in his room and he's the only one who knows the combination. The next morning he opens the safe and finds the coins gone. He calls the police and since he's the only one who knows the combination, the police and insurance company are assuming he has them and is going to cry for his insurance. So he calls Banacek. And Banacek starts by looking at the ones who were going to bid on the coins and see if any of them wanted to avoid paying him. Written by
