Executive Producer J. Michael Straczynski forced Michael O'Hare and Bruce Boxleitner to spend as much time together as possible (even making them share the same table during lunch) so that the characters exuded a believable friendship while on camera.

According to the Babylon 5 novel, To Dream in the City of Sorrows, Sheridan saved Sinclair from a mob during the Mars riots. The two later hid out in a bar where they got to know each other, and became friends.

Captain Sheridan remarks that he hasn't seen Sinclair since the Mars Riots. While this is in keeping with Babylon 5 canon, Sheridan - as captain of the Agamemnon - was part of the presidential escort when Babylon 5 was commissioned in 2257, and Sinclair was in command of the station; but Sheridan never left his ship, and he and Sinclair did not meet face to face.

According to the Babylon 5 novel, To Dream in the City of Sorrows, Sinclair first met Sheridan at the Earth Force academy. Sinclair was a plebe (first year student), and Sheridan was an upperclassman.
