Notable early appearance of Gina McKee as the "Cowgirl". Her only previous TV appearance had been on "Quest of Eagles".
During filming, Tim Healy injured his eye by catching it on the page of a magazine he was reading, leaving it very sore and swollen. This is very evident in the scene where Neville confronts Dennis over the terms of his relationship with Ally Fraser.
This episode continues a running cowboy theme in the series, which includes the lads dubbing themselves the Magnificent Seven early on, and comes to a head in this episode, which includes Midlands Cowboys, and a cowboy plumber called Harry Blackburn.
In joke: Oz tells Harry Blackburn that the worst thing about his time in the Falklands was the Jim Davidson visits. Joe Fagin who sings the theme tunes on series one and two, was actually Jim Davidson's tour manager on his visits to the Falkland Islands.
Oz's singing abilities at the country and western night were no doubt a bit of a shock when this episode first aired, and Nail was an unknown. However, Jimmy Nail went on to have quite a successful musical career after series 2 of Auf Wiedersehen Pet. His Crocodile Shoes album of 1994 sold over a million copies, mainly in the UK. Nail has also recorded with Gary Moore, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler and George Harrison. His music has also received Golden Globe and Ivor Novello nominations.
