When Michael (Jason Bateman) is confronting George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor) about lying to him and George Sr. denies it, Michael retorts: "Great performance, Dad. You're a regular Brad Garrett." Jeffrey Tambor had just lost the 2005 Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy to Brad Garrett, the second year in a row he had lost out to Garrett.
When Lindsay (Portia de Rossi) says that Andy Griffith cancelled his appearance because he thought the Bluths were making fun of him, the narrator says "No one was making fun of Andy Griffith. I can't emphasize that enough." The narrator, Ron Howard, starred with Andy Griffith in the The Andy Griffith Show (1960).
