***SPOILERS*** Supporting a wife and 4 children with a 5th one on the way money strapped truck driver Frank Santo, Telly Savalas, went to the neighborhood loan shark for a $500.00 loan but ended up on his sh*t list when after paying off the principle he was stuck with the Vig,interest, that was more then what the originally loan that took out. Feeling he's being taken advantage of and not paying off Frank's family as well as himself are now under the gun by the mob if he doesn't pay off and pay off fast. A pre-"Death Wish" like TV episode has Frank take matters into his own hands only to get put on trial for 1st degree murder by coolly and preemptively knocking off the Mr. Big or John Wilton, Robert Bice, who runs the loan shark and shake down racket in L.A.

You can see that no one shed any tears for Mr. Big when he got it not even his #1 squeeze-woman-Doreen Stack-the former Doris Slackover- played by Joan Tabor as well as her husband husband Mitchell Harris,Don Galloway, Mr. Big's bodyguard who were at the scene of his murder. That's when he was shot dead by Frank while taking a dive in his swimming pool. Caught red handed Frank was to be tried for Mr. Big's murder and was more then willing to face the music-Dumb De Dumb Dumb-until he realized that he left his family out in the cold and without a bread winner.

***SPOILERS*** It was defense attorney John Egan, Chuck Conners, who took Frank's case Pro-Bono and had him realize that what he did not only didn't make things better for him and his family but touched off a major gang war with members of the mob fighting each other to take over Mr. Big's crime operations in the city. It took a lot of soul searching om Frank's part to finally admit what he did and throw himself on the mercy of the court. That's after his trial ended up in a hung jury with the jury members not having it in their hearts in convicting him of doing what any one of them would have done under the same circumstances.
