Dean may not be doing great at school, but his spelling is improving.
5 April 2013 | by (Edinburgh.) – See all my reviews

"The Tale Of The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is all about schoolboy Dean. He's not having a great time at school, and doesn't seem to have much luck at all, but that all looks set to change when he finds an artifact that can grant him some useful powers. It all comes at a price, however, and maybe the price is too high.

Directed by D. J. Machale, and written by Stephen Zoller, this is another weak episode from season one. The premise is okay, at best, but it's not dealt with effectively at all. Things all seem to happen too quickly, and it's hard to get a sense of any real danger.

Matthew Mackay plays Dean, and does okay, while Staci Smith is Alix, the girl who notices something is amiss and hopes to fix it. Jane Gilchrist and Emma Stevens are the main adults, doing okay with their relatively small roles.

I'd say more about this episode, but there really isn't more to say. It's average in all departments, but gets one extra point due to my goodwill for the show. Ultimately, a very forgettable episode.
