Samantha Chemerika plays Jill, a teenage girl who still likes to lose herself in a world of fairy tales. But Jill only thinks of the good aspects of the fairy tales. She starts to change her mind when a fantastical character (Sandman, played by Bobcat Goldthwait . . . . . . . . . . . yes . . . . . I said Bobcat Goldthwait) reminds her that fairy tales can have a dark side too.
Written by Chloe Brown and directed by D. J. MacHale, this is a very lightweight, very unscary episode of "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?" that really just gains bonus points for casting Bobcat Goldthwait in a main role.
Chemerika is okay in her role, but she's stuck playing a character who isn't all that interesting or easy to root for. In fact, until Goldthwait appears, it becomes hard not to watch the tale unfold in a complete state of apathy.
Overall, this is a weak episode that doesn't make for the best start for the second season, but it's watchable (as pretty much every episode is) and fun for that one particular casting choice.
