Quotes

Angel: Your father owed a debt.
Ralph D'Amico: This is hardly a place to discuss business. Come to my office.
Angel: This is a debt he paid once a month.
Ralph D'Amico: That's what you are. Well, it was my father's debt, not mine. His mistake, not mine!
Angel: That's right. We've been instructed to say in that regard, in deference to the departed, no payment will be due for two months.
Ralph D'Amico: That's very nice of you.
Angel: After that, a thousand a month in small bills in the usual fashion.
Ralph D'Amico: You want the money, you get it from him!
Angel: We'll get it from you, or ...

Peter Falk as a Mobster

THE AQUANAUTS – The Double Adventure - 1961

THE AQUANAUTS was a series that ran for 32 episodes during 1960 and 1961. The series is about several salvage divers, Keith Larsen, Jeremy Slate and Ron Ely who do a bit of detective work on the side. The series was also known as, THE MALIBU RUN. This particular episode is the 23rd of the production run.

Al Ruscio, a friend of diver Ron Ely is having a bit of bother. It seems that his just deceased father owed the mob a large amount of cash. They have sent several of their "Representatives", Peter Falk and Lewis Charles, to inform Ruscio of the arrangement. Ruscio tells the mob types to get stuffed. Falk tells the man to pay the grand a month or die.

The month is up and Ruscio is a bit worried that maybe the mob might keep its threat. Ely suggests that it is most likely a hollow threat and not to worry. That is till later in the day when Falk and his gunsel, Charles, show up at Ely's apartment with weapons drawn.

Falk explains that they are going to kill Ruscio and that Ely will get the blame. They have brought in a hitter who looks just like Ely. He is going to do the hit and make sure there are witnesses. The Police will of course put Ely at the top of their list to corral.

The hit goes off as planned, Falk conks Ely on the noggin and leaves him sprawled on the floor. The Police, led by Carroll O'Connor quickly grab up Ely for a chat. They have multiple witnesses to the murder. Ely tries to explain about Falk etc but of course no one believes his story.

It is only a bit of luck that the real look-a-like killer is found and Ely is released. It is a bit hard to judge the series off this one episode, which, quite frankly, did not impress.
