Lilah Morgan: Darla. I didn't see you.
Darla: Going through their things, all the hidden pieces of themselves locked away, giving you a naughty little thrill of control.

Angel helps a girl with telekinetic powers
21 September 2006 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This is not my favorite episode. It doesn't contribute a lot to the over all story line or have any real impact on the characters. It does have some fun parts to it, but if you're watching the season on DVD, you can probably skip "Untouched" and not miss much.

"Untouched" revolves around a young woman named Bethany. She's able to move things with her mind and she's in trouble. She has problems controlling her talent and she's being recruited by Lila. Wolfram and Hart think that Bethany can become an assassin. When Bethany is attacked in an alley way, Angel gets involved. Bethany crushes her attackers with a dumpster and she's scared that she will hurt someone else. She ends up at the Hyperion looking for help. It turns out that her powers developed because her father abused her. Angel is still being haunted by dreams about Darla. Bethany tries to seduce Angel, but he turns her down. He explains that she safe at the hotel and that she must try to control her powers. Wolfram and Hart are desperate to get Bethany back. They try kidnapping her and, when that doesn't work, then send her father to the hotel. Bethany freaks out. Everything starts moving and rattling and she nearly kills her father. At the last minute, she finally takes control of her powers and lets him live. Bethany leaves LA, finally able to embrace her gift.

There are some good parts to this episode. The scenes and conversations between Cordy, Wes, Angel and Gunn are really fun. Cordy might work for Angel, but she has no trouble telling him what to do. She insists that Angel should be paying Gunn. Angel, unable to stand up to Cordelia's bossiness, finally offers Gunn a paycheck. "Cool," says Gunn. And I really enjoy Angel and Gunn searching that apartment. The guy who attacked Bethany is still alive and on the critical list at the hospital. Angel can't go into the house, so he sort of leans against the "force field" blocking the doorway. Suddenly Angel goes tumbling into the apartment and they realize that the guy must've died. "I guess he's off the critical list." Angel mused. Gunn snorts, "A rapist for hire? You see me crying?" It just cracks me up. Also, I love Angel pretending to be a cop at the crime scene. He's hilarious, stealing coffee and prying answers from the patrolmen. And I like Wes sharing his knowledge about telekinesis "Ah, yes. The power of moving things with one's mind... Actually, that's all I've got. I'm better with demons, really." Plus, his plan to test Bethany is great. He deliberately brings up her father and Bethany sends him flying. Wes and Spike are the two "people" in the Buffyverse whose plans usually have direct, insightful, suicide mission qualities about them... And their plans are the ones that usually work. Finally, I really like Lila, so it's cool to see her out of the Wolfram and Hart offices and folding laundry.

On the down side, why is Lila trying to recruit Bethany? Lila's a lawyer. She's not in charge of hiring talent for Wolfram and Hart, is she? Also, am I really suppose to care that Bethany squashed those attempted rapists? Cordy gives her a lecture about controlling her powers, but I say good job Bethany.

My favorite part of the episode: Cordy and Angel. He threatens to fire her for nagging him. Cordy reminds him that he needs her, "I'm vision girl, remember?" Then she sticks her tongue out at him and Angel sort of smiles. It's just a really cute scene.
