Angel:
[
apologizing to Merl]
That night still haunts me. I'm ashamed how I treated you. The way I used you. I took what I needed, then I cast you aside and that... That was wrong of me. It was very wrong.
Merl:
He's reading!
Angel:
I made some notes.
Merl:
I don't feel the sincerity here.
Angel:
I told you it was a waste of time.
Merl:
Real friends don't need notes.
Angel:
We're not friends, Merl. We barely even know each other.
Merl:
Not like you made the effort either, is it?

It's about the mission bro. He's got it. You don't - Another 'Gunn' episode, It develops his character in all the necessary ways, he moves on out of his old crew and pretty much reveals his feelings for 'Angel'. When it comes down to 'Gunn' episodes, the secondary story lines are more interesting than the actual 'Gunn' story lines, but this one was pretty much only about 'Gunn'. What I like is how the writers made 'Gunn' seem more human by making him have nightmares of his sister that got staked by him more than a year ago (it's impossible that you would get over something like that so quickly). I also like that this episode deals with the 'stereotyping' issue, 'Gunn's old gang are killing demons, good and bad including 'Merl' only because they are demons, but just because they are doesn't necessarily make them bad. I also loved 'Fred's scenes, watching these episodes make me realize how much I liked crazy 'Fred', I kind of lost my interest in her as soon as she went sane and disappeared into the background. Her misunderstandings with 'Cordy', singing a song about being crazy and getting demon guts spilled all over her face made her all the more adorable. I also liked Khalil Kain, he played his character very well and made me love to hate him, also his head getting bitten off by a demon was a pretty nifty way to die. I think that this episode really came out strong on some levels but was still lacking something more, especially for a Tim Minear episode it didn't came out as strong as you would expect from him. ANGEL: Hey! Why is my name at the top of this list? ANGEL: Eh, 'A'? CORDELIA: Merl and I where not enemies! CORDELIA: Oh, okay, my mistake. ANGEL: I'm the one that found the body, remember? CORDELIA: Oh. And that's not suspicious. The one time you pay Merl a social visit and he ends up dead? (6.5 out of 10)
