The musical directors of this episode gave a couple of nods to "The Music Man" musical, which was still fresh in the audience's mind. Tributes included using the "Minuet in G," and several dance moves taken from the "Shipoopi" number.
The audio of this episode, is distorted on the DVD, and also streaming on Amazon Prime.
Of the major cast members, Clara Edwards was the resident piano/organ player, teacher, and music expert in town. However, Helen is seen playing the piano at the rehearsals here, Andy plays the keyboard at the seller's home in "The Church Organ," and Aunt Bee plays a very lively home piano a couple of times in the early seasons.
It's lucky for Helen that the Griffith series did not take place in the 1920s. Before the first world war there were no frenetic or "teenage" dances from which she could make her analogies. The modern dancing of the Roaring Twenties was truly the first "popular," "do your own thing" type dancing in the western world.
In the opening few seconds of the show the first few bars of the school song "Mayberry Union High" is subtly played in the background. This song was presented only twice in the series, sung by Andy and Barney in "Class Reunion" (Season 3), and "The Return of Barney Fife" (Season 6).
