Barney Fife mentions that he and Andy Taylor are cousins.
The show's creator, Sheldon Leonard, was so admired by the producers and writers of "The Big Bang Theory" that they named that show's two main characters "Sheldon" (played by Jim Parsons) and "Leonard" (played by Johnny Galecki).
All of the season opening first episodes have Opie as the main focus, as indicated by most of their titles. "The New Housekeeper", "Opie and the Bully", Mr. McBeevee", "Opie the Bird Man", "Opie Loves Helen", "Opie's Job", Opie's Girlfriend", "Opie's First Love".

Andy and Opie are the only holdovers from The Danny Thomas Show. Francis Bavier was also in that episode but she played a woman named Henrietta. Here she plays Aunt Bee for the first time.

Rose's new husband, Wilbur Pine, is played by Frank Ferguson, who later in the series plays Mr. Foley the butcher in "Bargain Day" and "Charles" Foley in "The Case of the Punch in the Nose," and plays Sam Lindsey in "Ellie for Council" and "The Beauty Contest - five episodes in all.

The emblem near the left shoulder on the shirt Opie is wearing in the wedding scene is that is the shield logo of the USA Olympic Team. The Summer Olympics in 1960 had just finished a few weeks before the first airing of this episode.
