When Opie and his friend Arnold accidentally send a baseball crashing through the window of an old abandoned house, they're too afraid to go in and retrieve it. The house has a reputation for being haunted but Barney admonishes Andy for not making the boys retrieve the ball anyways. The cowardly Deputy balks however when Andy suggests that he get it for them. Even Otis the town drunk suggests that they stay away from the place. Soon, Andy and Barney - with Gomer in tow - are in the place. They hear strange sounds, see a painting with eyes that seem to follow you across the room and find a secret chamber. There's definitely an earthly explanation to everything however. Written by
Did You Know?
In the opening shots where Opie and Arnold argue over going after their lost ball, the little house in the background is the same backlot set used for Frank Myers' house in "Mayberry Goes Bankrupt" from season two. Remnants of the town-decorated window shutters can still be seen. See more
All I'm saying is that there are some things beyond the ken of mortal man that shouldn't be tampered with. We don't know everything, Andy. There's plenty goin' on right now in the Twilight Zone that we don't know anything about and I think we oughta stay clear.
