Convict Eddie Brooke, newly escaped from state prison, evades a police pursuit on the outskirts of Mayberry. While hiding out in town, Barney, who doesn't know he's an escaped con, stops him for littering on the sidewalk. Spotting the cops on patrol (who spot him), Brooke tries to flee but gets into a clumsy accidental tussle with Barney and is captured. Before being hauled away, Brooke vows revenge, shouting to a terrified and confused Barney, "I'll get you for this, Deputy." No one in town knows that the capture was accidental, so they brand Barney a hero. Barney feels ten-feet tall. As his friends later gather around to celebrate with a surprise party in his honor, the state police return with word that Brooke has escaped and is headed back to Mayberry. Though Barney is terrified, when the state police ask for help in capturing Brooke (spotted around Myer's Lake), he's is ready and willing. Out searching the woods, Andy spots Brooke holed up in a barn hayloft and sets things up so ... Written by
