Storyline

After being warned for the last time about fighting and disturbing the peace, Fred and Jenny Boone are at it again the next morning when Barney hears them and brings them in. Since nothing else has worked, Andy tries a little experiment - he makes them come in every morning for fifteen minutes to sit and speak politely to one another - which seems to work. At home, he tells Opie and Billy they will earn five cents each for playing nice after he catches them fighting. Well, the Boones learn to be polite to each other but start snapping at everyone else. Fred assaults his card-playing buddies and Jenny almost takes Aunt Bee's head off over an innocent remark. Billy stops coming over to play because it's no fun anymore. Andy realizes that "what looks like 'rasslin' to one is dancin' to another" and calls off the experiment after ten days. Written by bobbymaxwell

This one always makes me laugh...
12 October 2010 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

I just love this episode. While it's not one of my very favorites, it never fails to make me laugh. It's one of the more overtly funny episodes but it also illustrates a good point about bottling up your emotions! The show begins with Barney and Andy very frustrated with a local couple who have been having some horrible fights--so loud that they keep getting calls from their neighbors who are complaining. It's odd, as when the two are apart, they are sweet as can be to the people in the community--but together they are just plain nasty. So, instead of just locking them up again and again for disturbing the peace, Andy has a brilliant idea--force the couple to endure niceness lessons together every day! It's really funny to watch the two being kind to each other, as they are obviously in great pain! And, it's also very funny to see how this positive change in the way they treat each other actually has negative consequences for everyone around them! Very clever and original from start to finish.
