Barney was at his best as a pest in this episode

This episode was very good, especially with all of the perfectly timed interruptions from Barney. This showed Barney as he was supposed to be, a pest with the best intentions.

Never Look a Gift Barney in the Mouth!
Hitchcoc13 December 2019
Andy and Helen are finding it impossible to get together, so Barney offers to take over all their obligations on a Saturday--to send them off to a romantic lake. Of course, once they are there, he can't leave them alone. Not just that. Other forces move in an mess things up. It's a fun episode but even I was aggravated.

Deputy Fife at his best being a pest
mloessel14 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Deputy Fife has the best of intentions offering to take care of all the chores for Helen so she and Andy can have a well deserved day off. On paper it looks like a good plan as Fife takes on each task with relative ease. Then comes those tasks that require a decision and Fife gets overly cautious and interrupts Andy and Helen. Each interruption becomes increasingly annoying as Fife seems overly curious about what Andy and Helen are doing. This is Don Knotts at his comical best. Andy and Helen go fishing and catch a few. As they're walking back to the vehicle they are stopped by the game warden. The warden asks to see Taylor's fishing license. He didn't have it with him so they have to pay a fine. The Sheriff has no money so he calls his office and tells Goober to tell Fife to bring money to the J of P office so he can pay the fine. Goober passes this message to Fife and Fife in turn miss interprets it to meaning Andy and Helen need money to buy a marriage license. Feeling he's right he convinces his girlfriend (Thelma Lou) and Aunt Bee that Andy and Helen are getting married and makes arrangements to surprise them at the J of P office. When Fife, Aunt Bee, Opie et al arrive they quickly learn, from Andy, that he needed the money to pay a fine not get married. Goober rushes in and showers everyone with rice.

The writers do a superb job of bringing this episode to a delightful conclusion.

One of TAGS best episodes

Episode has some very special scenes I always liked. Howard Morris as the TV repairman, Barney bringing Opie to the romantic rendezvous, Goober scrounging some chicken legs, Goober's "say it a-gin". Just a non-stop laughs, terrific episode.
